Morningstar Announces Fund and Fund House Winners for 2019 UK Fund Awards

March 20, 2019

LONDON, 20 March—Morningstar UK Limited, a subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: MORN), a leading provider of independent investment research, has announced the fund and fund group winners of its 2019 UK Fund Awards.

The annual Morningstar UK Fund Awards recognise the retail funds and fund groups that added the most value for investors within the context of their relevant peer group in the previous year. Morningstar selects the winners using a quantitative methodology, and eligible funds require a five-year performance track record. Weightings to one-, three-, and five-year performance are factored into the methodology, along with a qualitative overlay.

“This year’s winners of the Morningstar UK Fund Awards adopted a long-term approach to investing that ultimately helped investor returns within the context of their relevant peer group”, said Jonathan Miller, Director, Manager Research Ratings, UK. “The primary purpose of these quantitatively driven Morningstar awards is to recognise funds and fund houses shown to have the ability to earn strong long-term returns without undue risk. We are strong advocates of applying patience as a key element of a successful investment strategy.”

Notes to Editors:
The Morningstar fund category and fund house awards are based on Morningstar fund data as at 31 December 2018. The awards methodology emphasises the one-year period, but funds must also have delivered strong three- and five-year returns after adjusting for risk within the award peer groups in order to obtain an award. In selecting winners, fund returns are adjusted for risk using the Morningstar Risk, a measure which imposes a higher penalty for downside variation in a fund’s return than it does for upside volatility.
